Fredericton, N.B. – With almost 75% of its sales driven by customers beyond Canada’s border, it’s not surprising that LuminUltra Technologies Ltd (www.luminultra.com) has won the top award in the 2012 New Brunswick Exporter of the Year competition. “After years of research and commercialization challenges, we’ve now got momentum on our side,” says LuminUltra CEO Pat Whalen. “In the last five years alone, we’ve established an extensive global partner network and grown our total revenues during that period at an average rate of 30-40%, largely driven by export markets. We’ve increased staff and just recently, we moved into a new, expanded facility. To have our success recognized in such a significant way by our home province is particularly meaningful and gratifying for the entire LuminUltra team.”
LuminUltra launched its new product – a test kit for water that offers near real-time response in the detection of total microorganisms – in 2003. Nearly a decade later, LuminUltra now sells and supports its products on every continent. The company’s primary focus is sales and support of a patented line of 2nd Generation Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) test kits, laboratory equipment and information management and data analysis software.
The company’s rapidly-growing list of customers is impressive and diverse. Through its global network of agents, distributors and partners, end users of LuminUltra’s products include like-minded small-to-medium sized entrepreneurial businesses, Fortune 500 companies, and municipal water operators for small towns up to the largest cities.
It’s been a long road for CEO Pat Whalen, who has been with the company since its inception. Whalen says the company has established footholds on every continent and appears to be headed for an exciting period of growth. “We now have a strong presence in the U.S., Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Africa and South America,” says Whalen. “At this point, we’ve secured two U.S. patents, have a patent pending in Canada, approved trademarks in China and the E.U., as well as pending trademarks in Canada and the U.S. “
